November Trips

Three visits – to Komarov boarding school, Fastov children’s home and Chernigov orphanage – took place on the 8th and 15th of November 2008. The purpose of the visits was the premier of the “Sea Fellowship” performance given by the “Sun City” theater. We thank kindly all the actors, the producer and all the crew.

We were so much under the impression of the visit to Komarovka; especially were impressed those who visited the place for the first time. It should be noted that the school has a lot of problems to solve and the help is always needed. The children are in poor health. There is a lack of clothes (hats, jackets, shoes). The lavatory is out of doors, and it’s in a bad condition. The forum participants are going to build a new one, and we invite everybody to help us.
Lidia Morozova said, “Despite a lot of the problems the boarding school has, I have to say that every our visit reveals some new improvements – a new building began to function, and an old one has been.
 
Currently, the heating system in being repaired for the funds financed by EBRD, and I am glad to see a new laundry where a brand new washing machine is installed!
What we would like to do next is to engage a team of dermatologist, urologist and gynecologist doctor for examination, diagnosis and further treatment of the children.”

Here’s what the travel participants say:

“Chernigov orphanage made a good impression. At least for 3 months the kids will feel at home here. The shelter is designed for only 50 children but now children live here. It’s a former kinder garden building; it is clean and very comfortable. Kids are well-groomed, tutors are friendly. A lot of organizations are helping the orphanage: McDonalds invites the children to the holiday celebrations, the Kolyba restaurant makes birthday parties, and theaters give performances! 
Children are often brought here from the street or taken from their homes from their drunken parents. After that, their fate is being decided upon, and very often they go to one of the orphanages.” 

“A trip to the Fastov orphanage was fun and emotional as it always is! “The performance was great! There were games, fun, banquet! Children were very happy to see us and did not want to let us go.”
