About Lidiya’s family

Lydia is the mother of two children: Alexander who is 7 years old and Victor, 12 years old. Their father died some time ago. The family lives on a pension (600 grivna per month) and has its own piece of land. The older child is a 6 grade student and takes individual lessons. The younger boy went to school for the first time this year. Until that he had stayed at home with his mother.
The family is living in a very old house that urgently needs capital repair (there is dirt floor in one of the rooms, the walls have cracked, the house has sinked to the ground badly, doors and windows have sagged). There is no gas, so they make food in the stove.
Once in 2008, there was a risk of taking the children from the family, but the “Hope and Homes for Children” NGO considered the great affection of the children to the mother and their fear of losing the family and began to help them. The situation has improved in six months. Mother was treated of alcoholism, and some cosmetic repairs were done in the house: windows were replaced in one room. The woman got a temporary job in Makariv, but was forced to quit because of the poor health condition of one of the children.
In spring 2008 the family got in trouble – a child injured his spine and head. Initially, the family hoped that nothing serious happened, but the boy began to lose eyesight a month later. It’s absolutely necessary to hold an in-depth examination and treatment in Kiev. This requires significant amount ща money which the family surely doesn’t have.

The family is in urgent need of the following things:
1. Bed
2. Floor decor (carpet, rugs, etc.).
3. Bobbinet, curtains – 4 windows.

6. Pillows

About Svetlana’s family

A 23-year-old single mother Svetlana has three children: Alexander who is 6, Victor who is 4 and Dmitry, 3. Svetlana spent her childhood in the orphanage. When she was 17 years old she was absolutely alone. There were no relatives or friends; younger brother and disabled sister were still in the orphanage. A home where she lived was unfit for living: electricity was absent due to debts, windows were collapsed as well as floor and stove.

The house needed repairs, but she didn’t have any money for it. She rebuilt a stove herself – the warmth in the house is a fundamental requirement as the stove is used not just for heating the house but for cooking as well. Every time the woman bore a child a question was raised about the living conditions for kids as these were extremely bad and baby needed a lot of to be taken care of properly. Every time a woman re-gained the rights to bring up her children. Every time she was given this right only because of a strong love and affection of the children to the mother.

In 2008 Svetlana bought a washing machine thanks to good people. She also paned the windows and put linoleum on the floor. She was able to send her eldest son to school and middle one to kindergarten.

The woman desperately needs to make normal repairs in the building: repair the walls, paint the windows and doors, and put a door in the cellar. A fence is needed around the yard. The house is situated too close to the road which makes it dangerous for the children to have no fence around the house. Also she needs to buy necessary clothes for the children to send them to school and kindergarten. Also, the family needs some furniture, especially chairs and cabinets, as well as garden tools to work in the vegetable garden.

The family is in urgent need of the following things:
1. Wardrobe
2. Chairs
3. Crib
4. Bed
5. A table in the kitchen
6. Pram
7. Child pots (2 pieces)
8. Floor decor (carpet, etc.).
9. Bobbinet, curtains – 5 windows.

12. Pillows
13. Bed linen
14. Towels
15. Materials to build the fence (30m) (shtahet, lath or other)
16. Wallpaper for a 30 sq.m. room
17. The paint for doors and windows (6L)
18. Fiberboard – 20 panels
19. Gas oven
20. Gas-bag
21. TV set
22. Children’s clothing (boys are aged 2, 4 and 6. A new-born is expected in 2 months), pampers for infants
