The right to health

Every child has the right to health, and this right is guaranteed to all children in Ukraine. However, there are children who do not have access to quality, professional medical care. This lack of access often leads to the accumulation of numerous chronic illnesses.

Need help
The project applies to:
Get Involved
  • Children who are on the verge of being placed in institutional care and who live in or come from families facing difficult life circumstances
  • Orphans, children deprived of parental care, as well as all children living and being raised in institutions/orphanages
  • Graduates of institutional care facilities
  • Children returned from the occupied territories of Ukraine

Yes, statistical data on the health conditions of children deprived of parental care indicate the following:

  • Orphaned children fall ill more often (640 illnesses per 100 children per year);
  • The incidence of diseases in institutional care is twice as high as in family care;
  • Orphans start smoking and consuming alcohol early (by age 11);
  • Extremely high level of mental disorders: 100 (!) illnesses per 100 children;
  • They predominantly suffer from digestive and respiratory diseases, while young children have congenital anomalies and certain conditions arising in the perinatal period (43.7%);
  • They show poorer physical health indicators due to low body weight and short stature, with many classified in the third and fourth health groups;
  • They have a high level of mental and behavioral disorders (100 illnesses per 100 children per year).

Children who have been in the uncontrolled territories of Ukraine since the full-scale invasion have had no access to any medical services at all.

The "Right to Health" project includes:
  • Providing diagnostic, medical, preventive, and consulting assistance
  • Conducting talks with children about hygiene and disease prevention
  • If necessary, raising funds for treatment and purchasing medications
  • Providing medical care to institutional facilities, including mobile medical teams visiting the institutions, examining and treating children, and giving recommendations for further treatment
Our project partners
